The West Pasture mine lies north of Stanhope in the Weardale Valley of County Durham and is famous for its superb and very characteristic zingy apple-green Fluorite.  This is an excellent specimen because of its vibrant colour (particularly good for West Pasture) and well-developed crystals.  Green Fluorite from this locality does fade if displayed in direct sunlight, so it is recommended that specimens are stored in a drawer to preserve their original and distinctive colour.  This specimen has regular cubic crystals to 1.8 cm on edge, of mouth-watering citrus apple-green with semi-transparent faces gradually turning to translucent cores.  The Fluorite covers an ochre-coloured ironstone matrix heavily encrusted with drusy flowstone Calcite on its base.
