A large 14 x 14 cm lozenge-shaped plate of various sized Calcite crystals with a smattering of black Sphalerite from the New Glencrieff Vein at Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. The Calcite covers a thin yet very solid plate of mixed Quartz and Calcite matrix and is accompanied by two earlier labels, one a Roughgems Ltd (Charterhouse St., London). The Calcite forms milky white scalenohedral crystals up to about 2 cm long over which is a pervasive secondary coating of fine grained, granular light grey Calcite. Although Calcite is probably the most common gangue mineral at Wanlockhead, it does occur in many guises, this being a fine example of one.
