Something quite different from the British Isles, an amazing, large cabinet specimen of the rare borates Szaibélyite and Volkovskite from Panel 848 in Boulby mine at Loftus in North Yorkshire.  The 1100 m deep shafts at Boulby, sometimes referred to as Boulby Potash mine, are sunk adjacent to the coast and the mine, currently the deepest in Europe, extends far-out beneath the North Sea.  The Szaibélyite occurs a dull white to pale lemon-yellow delicate clusters of needles and these are richly distributed over the entire surface of the Volkovskite.  The Volkovskite forms large ‘V’-shaped colourless blades, pigmented pinkish-pumpkin-orange, averaging 4 to 5 cm long by up to about 5 cm at their broadest points.  A magnificent specimen of two extremely rare British minerals, a specimen that will greatly compliment any Boracite specimens you might have from this mine.
