The very rare mineral Marshite is one of the must-have Broken Hill classics but is seldom available and then usually only as a few micro-crystals.  This superb specimen has probably about two hundred such crystals individually scattered over the sooty-black manganese-rich matrix.  All the crystals are micro, not exceeding 1mm, but this is the nature of this species.  Marshite is a copper iodide with the simple yet rare chemistry of CuI and in this specimen forms creamy pale-lemon crystals.  The species was named for C.W. Marsh who first described it and is from its type locality at Broken Hill Proprietary mine, Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia.  An amazing specimen!
