Bright silvery intergrown crystals of Nickelskutterudite, averaging around 7 mm and up to 9 mm, cover a matrix of mixed Calcite with carbonate rock. From Schneeberg in Saxony, Germany, Nickelskutterudite is an isometric (cubic) mineral and here forms quite complex cuboctahedral crystals with additional crystallographic modifications. This rich large miniature/small cabinet specimen comes with an old German label headed ‘Chloanthite’, the original name for Nickelskutterudite. Chloanthite was renamed Nickelskutterudite in 1892.
