Connellite is a rare hydrous copper chloro-sulphate and occurs in several locations around Cornwall.  This small miniature is from the famous Wheal Unity, part of the St. Day United Mines in the parish of Gwennap, east of Redruth.  The Connellite occurs as micro-crystalline blades and patches amongst a jet-black matrix of Azurite and fibrous, peppermint green Malachite.  The Azurite forms tiny terminated crystals and granular masses with a glassy lustre, all appearing jet-black with no hint of blue.
