Willemite

ID: CC15391
A rather splendid small miniature of the zinc silicate mineral Willemite, lining a vug whose outer surface closely mimics its internal geometry, similar to a dolomitic cast.  The Willemite forms beautiful radial hemispherical clusters to 5 mm diameter, mainly snow-white, but with some grading to the more familiar delicate duck-egg blue.  The outer, finely botryoidal surface is also Willemite but of a rich cinnamon reddish-brown.  This is probably the red-brown variety of Willemite known as Troostite; a variety not that common in collections, but relatively common at Tsumeb.  This is an unusual specimen with great aesthetics and comes with a famous previous collector’s label.
