Bismuthinite

ID: CC15592
An excellent example of Bismuthinite crystals embedded within a hard creamy-white to light tan marble from the Rotgülden mine in the Silbereck-Altenbergkar area of Lungau, Salzburg, Austria.  The Bismuthinite, a bismuth sulphide, generally manifests as long narrow crystals, the largest individual examples measure 3.3 x 0.1 cm, although these are cross sections of probably broader crystals extending back into the matrix.  The Bismuthinite varies from lustrous whitish-silver to dull light gunmetal-grey.  A great specimen of Bismuthinite from this precious metal deposit in the Austrian Alps.
