Calcite var. Cuprian (aka Cuprocalcite)

ID: CC15593
Cuprian Calcite, also known as Cuprocalcite, is a copper-rich variety of Calcite with a lesser well-known varietal name but certainly one which can be applied to some specimens from the Tsumeb mine in the Oshikoto Region of Namibia.  This is a fabulous miniature of delicate pale peppermint green Calcite, forming a domed mound of stacked and stepped offset rhombohedral crystals on a small matrix of platy white Calcite.  This rare specimen is from the famous “ice-cream pocket”, discovered in 1977 and believed to be from the 2nd Oxidation Zone.  This pocket’s characteristic trait is that of very pale pastel-green Calcite rhombs with a sugary surface texture.  This is a thing of beauty and a very rare opportunity to acquire one of the legendary ice-cream pocket Calcites.  This specimen is from the Marshall Sussman Collection and is accompanied with one of his labels.
