A magnificent 9.6 x 6.6 cm trapezoidal plate of delicate rose to candyfloss pink Cobaltoan Smithsonite from the famous Tsumeb mine in the Oshikoto Region of Namibia.  Covering a hidden matrix of dense, granular silver Galena, blades of translucent pink Cobaltoan Smithsonite are developed up to at least 1.5 cm across and form a soft pink-coloured rose petal-like bed of curved bladed crystals.  As the varietal name suggests, the pink colour is derived from the presence of cobalt within the Smithsonite lattice, itself a zinc carbonate.  Individual blades are finely frosted which generates a semi-matt to slightly silky lustre and texture.  The specimen shows no damage and will make a splendid display piece in any Tsumeb Collection, be this be privately owned or in an important museum.
