This small museum size-specimen of superbly crystallised Quartz, blushed with salmon-pink Hematite inclusions, is from the Itremo massif in Madagascar, a massif covering some 273 square km and composed of metamorphosed sedimentary rocks.  The Ambatofinandrahana District (glad I’m writing and not pronouncing this!) contains several good Quartz localities which are exploited by local miners.  This impressive and showy specimen has a thin, about 1 cm thick, yet strong cryptocrystalline Quartz matrix entirely covered and hidden by beautifully developed hexagonal Quartz crystals.  These have steep-sided pyramidal terminations, the largest attaining about 7 cm tall and 2 cm wide in cross section.  The crystals range between colourless transparent to milky-translucent interiors, all with smooth but finely horizontally striated faces.  The Hematite inclusions are finely divided particles which impart a dull salmon-pink to either one or two termination faces, and sometimes parts of the same prism faces.  The inclusions impart a distinct phantom appearance to each crystal when examined close-to.  This is a magnificent Madagascan Quartz group which will display well and impress.  Please note, an additional postage and packing charge is likely for this specimen due to its size and weight.
