Goethite

$450.00   €447  £380.00 approx.

This specimen is priced in US dollars, all other prices are approximate.

ID: CC16506
An intriguing large miniature of Goethite from Schönbrunn in Saxony, Germany, having a compact columnar habit with both ends displaying a fine radial patterns at the column ends. This specimen is something really quite different and is yet again a superb example of a quite different crystallisation habit of this iron(III) oxide-hydroxide. The columns are typically 1.5 cm across and pack together similar to the basalt columns seen in places such as the Giant’s Causeway and the Isle of Staffa, adopting both pentagonal and hexagonal cross-sections and concave, radially-crystallised ends. This specimen is accompanied with what is clearly an old, handwritten label.
