A bright plate of microcrystalline, globular, vivid duck-egg blue Smithsonite from the Lavrion mining district in the Attikí Prefecture of Greece. More specifically such specimens are from the mines surrounding (and beneath!) the town of Agios Konstantinos (formerly Kamariza). This rather gorgeous miniature is mounted vertically on a square acrylic base and close to the top is a small cluster of white Aragonite crystals. The Smithsonite is a fabulous colour for this locality and forms velvet-textured surfaces with a beautiful satin lustre.
