A showstopping Galena from Wirksworth in Derbyshire complete with a coveted R.W. Barstow white label. This small cabinet specimen must be fairly unique in its habit for Derbyshire and in fact the British Isles in general, for its large skeletal octahedral morphology.  The steely silver-grey octahedral crystals are developed to 4 cm on edge, but never form complete crystals because of the densely intergrown nature of the crystals. Every face has ever decreasing, roughly triangular stepped faces, sometimes slightly rotated, so giving this unique skeletal appearance.  A few 1 to 2 mm colourless transparent to translucent Fluorite cubic crystals are strewn within small crevasses. A superb specimen and one which would be an outstanding addition to any serious Derbyshire suite.
