A superb cut cross-section of a Baryte stalactite from the Hollandtwine mine section of Dirtlow Rake, south-west of Castleton, Derbyshire, England. The central 7 cm diameter core is composed of outwardly radiating crystals of pale, greyish-blue Baryte and this is surrounded by circular banded orange-tan and cream Baryte. The overall diameter is 9.9 cm. One face is cut and varnished and the opposite side is a broken/cleaved plane through the stalactite which has been left in its natural state (i.e. unvarnished). A very good example of this form of Baryte from Dirtlow Rake.
