Native Gold

ID: CC16842
A good representative example of Native Gold in a greyish-cream Quartz matrix from Clogau St. Davids mine at Bontddu in the Dolgellau Gold Belt of Gwynedd, Wales.  This mine was originally a lead mine, but encountered Gold in 1861.  The Native Gold is a rich buttery-yellow-gold and occurs as disseminated grains mainly within a 15 x 4 mm zone which overlaps one face and one side.  Other grains and flecks of Native Gold are also visible in other parts of the specimen.
