A fabulous pale Smoky Quartz Gwindel with stunning optical clarity from Tujetsch in the Vorderrhein Valley of Grischun, Switzerland, and is a gorgeous example of this Quartz habit. The variety known as Gwindel Quartz appears to be slightly twisted, whereby apparently stacked Quartz crystals slowly rotate about their common c-axes. In the case of this specimen the rotation is only minor, but does result in multiple stacked faces, all with a brilliant glassy lustre. The colour of the Quartz is pale champaign and almost all the crystals are completely gemmy, proven by the ease of reading fine printed text through the specimen. The Gwindel is double terminated and from what I would consider the display face emerges a 4 cm long hexagonal Quartz crystal of the same colour and clarity, but broken off at the end and hence, lacking a termination. An excellent example of a Gwindel Quartz, a small cabinet specimen of amazing transparency and colour from Switzerland.
