Galena with Fluorite and Chalcopyrite

ID: CC16865
From the mines at Wirksworth, just south of Matlock in Derbyshire, a choice miniature of beautifully crystallised Galena and Fluorite.  The bright silver-grey metallic Galena forms delightful cuboctahedral crystals showing many stages of development, ranging from almost a pure cube to a fully developed octahedron.  The crystal size also varies from about 0.4 to 1.5 cm across and in some cases the Galena crystal faces exhibit fascinating growth structures.  The Fluorite occurs as green-tinged grey-colourless translucent cubic crystals to 1.2 cm with crystallised Chalcopyrite embedded in the surface and as inclusions.  A superb Galena for Derbyshire.
