Cloud Hill quarry at Breedon on the Hill has become a modern day classic, producing distinct and magnificent groups of Calcite crystals, characteristically with a golden tint and a delightful aesthetic. This quarry is still fully operational and lies to the north, midway between Ashby de la Zouch to the west and Loughborough to the east, in the county of Leicestershire. This is a magnificent specimen of large cabinet size, completely covered with horizontally lying, randomly orientated translucent to opaque Calcite crystals, many double terminated. The Calcite forms sharply pointed scalenohedral crystals typically between 2 and 3 cm long and all with a satin to glassy bright lustre. One millimetre equant crystals of Chalcopyrite are included within the Calcite which enhance their natural golden hue and also encrust the outsides of many smaller groups of Calcite across this very fine specimen. It comes with two previous collector’s labels; both very well know and highly respected in Britain.
