Calcite

ID: CC17156
A beautiful, tightly-clustered group of scalenohedral Calcite crystals from Blaengwynlais quarry at Bwlch-y-cwm, Wales.  This locality sits between Cardiff to the south and Caerphilly, a little to the north.  The crystals vary in size form about 1 cm tall to the largest which is 8 cm.  The Calcite is translucent pale honey-tan with a glassy lustre and all prism faces are stepped; formed from tiny rhombohedral crystals.  The specimen is enhanced even more by a preferential burnt orange coating from one direction and an opaque snow-white coating on the opposite faces.  A most showy Welsh Calcite that will display well.
