Many collectors will own or be familiar with the series of seven books by J. Bennett and R. Vernon, Mines of the Gwydyr Forest, an area of outstanding scenery and rich mineralisation close to Conway in the Snowdonia National Park. Part 3 (book 3) concentrates on the Parc mine at Llanrwst and this small cabinet specimen is a superbly crystallised Marcasite covering a gently mounded dome of Calcite from Parc. The Marcasite forms perfectly developed crystals of brassy metallic gold over which a few small clusters of milky white Calcite crystals are scattered. The specimen comes with the previous collectors’ label.
