A magnificent cabinet sized Native Copper from Houghton County in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan, USA.  Keweenaw Copper is one of the true American mineral classics due to its variety of habit, colour and overall aesthetic.  This heavy specimen is composed of numerous, densely packed, 0.7 to 1.0 cm thick crystallised “stems”, most of which branch into chunky arborescent fronds and gnarled branches which extend outwards from the main body of the specimen.  The Native Copper has a mottled patina of slightly tarnished copper with patchy pale-green verdigris coatings in its many nooks and crannies. The Native Copper is a rich buttery-bronze and within its complex branching structure, many habits of copper crystals are visible.  A wonderful specimen of beautifully crystallised Native Copper from “Yooper” Country in Upper Peninsula Michigan.
