Bornite

ID: CC17585
A stunning and perfect euhedral Bornite crystal perched on a similar but mini-crystal from the district around the town of Kambove in the Haut-Katanga Province of the DRC, formerly Zaire.  The primary crystal measures 2.0 x 1.7 x 1.3 cm and is like a crystal model in its perfection of cleanly developed crystal faces and crisp edges.  The crystal is matt, very dark grey tending to black.  Very close to or under low magnification, is criss-crossed with crackle-like lines over the surfaces of all its faces. The crystal perches on a tiny, equally perfect Bornite crystal turned at 90 degrees, the former fixed to a bevelled, clear acrylic display base.  Some old labels accompany the specimen, one of them being from the 2012 exhibition in Munich as a part of the African "Thumbnail" treasures.
