This extraordinary rod-like specimen of Bayldonite pseudomorphing after Cerussite is from the Tsumeb mine in Namibia, a mine famous for its countless pseudomorphs, a list which just keeps growing as research continues on specimens held in collections the world over. Bayldonite is a lead-copper arsenate and is a familiar mineral found replacing Cerussite down to the second oxidation zone in Tsumeb. Forming an asymmetric, distorted V-twin, light apple-green Bayldonite forms a pisolitic surface layer of sub-1 mm spheroidal grains over a more massive subsurface layer of Bayldonite. Whether or not any Cerussite exists within the replacement structure is an unknown. The longer limb measures 4 cm while the more complex short limb is 2.5 cm. The specimen is mounted on a small square clear acrylic base which shows this wonderful pseudomorph off to full advantage.
