This Smithsonite pseudomorph after Calcite is a real old-timer and although only recorded as being from the county of Derbyshire in England, is a fine specimen because of its history and age. Brownish-tan Smithsonite forms sharp and well-defined, vertically aligned hollow pseudomorphed crystals after Calcite. The underside is fascinating due to hollow cast structures and spherical, pisolitic Smithsonite. Neatly glued to the specimen is a very old label “430. Calamine after Calcite, Derbyshire.”, calamine being the old name for Smithsonite.
