ID: CC17747
A 7 mm smooth water-worn alluvial nugget of metallic silvery Native Platinum from Goodnews Bay, Alaska, USA.  This specimen is from Fox Gulch, known also as the Fox Gulch Platinum placer, on the Salmon River in the Red Mountain District of Goodnews Bay.  The nugget’s smooth surface is pitted and does still contain the odd minute piece of rock debris, be this original matrix or alluvial gravel.  The metal is a whiteish silver, a characteristic of a fairly pure form of Platinum.  Platinum is a noble metal and sits next to Gold in the periodic table with atomic number 78.  A small yet charming micro-specimen of Native Platinum.
