Red Gill mine is well known for its fascinating suite of minerals, but is most famous for its excellent Linarite, this being considered one of the best three sites in the British Isles for the species.  Linarite is a copper lead sulphate hydroxide and forms bright Persian blue bladed crystals, richly clustered over the surface of a Quartz veinstone matrix.  The crystals have developed to about 5 x 5 mm by 1 mm deep, on top of broad Quartz crystals which lay flat across the matrix.  The specimen is enhanced by powdery thin coatings and veinlets of pale blue Azurite, turquoise-green Malachite and creamy white Cerussite and Baryte.
