ID: CC18149
A pleasing and fascinating heavy specimen from Torr Works Quarry (Merehead Quarry) at Cranmore, Somerset, of the oxyhalide Mendipite, forming concentric ā€˜Vā€™-folded layers, interbedded with sooty-black manganese oxides. It is well known that the rare oxyhalide mineralisation was found in large manganese pods and this is a lovely scaled-down example.  The Mendipite occurs as creamy-white platy masses, sometimes tinged pale flesh-pink and semi-lustrous.  At the centre of the folded structure (both back and front of the specimen) are patches of pale lemon-yellow Paralaurionite.
