Native Gold

ID: CC18197
A very fine small cabinet specimen of filigree Native Gold on Calcite from the renowned British locality of Hope's Nose, just east of Torquay in Devon, England.  The long, narrow Calcite matrix has been lightly acid etched (as have all such specimens) to expose at least five areas of dendritic Native Gold, the largest patch being approximately 1.5 x 1.0 cm.  Characteristic of Hope’s Nose, the Gold forms delicate arborescent stems and branches and occasional, more matted, tangled nests of Native Gold wires.  The Calcite varies in colour from snow-white to glassy dull brick-red.  Good areas of visible Native Gold occur on both faces of the specimen, so it can be displayed from either side.  A classic Hope’s Nose Native Gold from Devon, England.
