A matrix of fine grained grey Quartz is richly coated with excellent Cassiterite crystals from Hingston Down Consols at Gunnislake in north Cornwall.  The old mine workings are frequently encountered during the quarrying operation and so specimens continue to be recovered. The highly lustrous black Cassiterite crystals are typically developed from 0.7 to 1 cm across and close-up, have semi-translucent zones and edges of golden-clove brown.  A very good Cassiterite from this well known quarry at Gunnislake.
