Marshite with Atacamite

ID: CC18490
An absolutely stunning specimen of the very rare copper iodide Marshite (CuI) as aligned macle (triangular) plates in a richly crystallised bed of deep, chrome-green Atacamite crystals.  Atacamite is a copper chloride hydroxide.  This specimen is from the Chuquicamata mine in El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region, Chile, a porphyry copper deposit and site of the world's largest open-pit copper mine.  The Marshite forms as translucent glassy greyish-green crystals to 5 mm in length and clearly stand out from the surrounding Atacamite.  A first-class specimen of Marshite with Atacamite from Chuquicamata.
