Native Gold

ID: CC18651
This spectacular and show-stopping Native Gold specimen is from the Eagle's Nest mine at Sage Hill in the Michigan Bluff District of California.  Made even more aesthetic by its attachment to a tapering 4 x 2 x 1.5 cm rounded block of milky Quartz, the Gold projects out from the matrix as stiff hackly gnarled branching plates and intertwined spiky-ribbons.  Attached to the Quartz, the weight of Gold cannot be accurately stated, but taking the bulk density of Quartz as 2.65 g/cm3, with a roughly estimated volume of 10 cm3.  Given the total specimen weighs 52.1 g, this estimates the weight of Gold at 25.6 g. The entire hackly (sharp) framework of Native Gold has a bright metallic lustre and is a pure golden gold, indicating a high level of gold purity (gold usually forms an alloy containing a percentage of silver or mercury).  A beautiful Native Gold with attached matrix from the Eagle's Nest mine, and one that will display magnificently.
