The Holzappel mine, 1 km from Holzappel in the Lahn Valley, Germany, dates back to antiquity and worked a zinc-lead-copper vein.  This is an excellent Pyromorphite from this mine, with many hundreds of sub-3 mm avocado-green prismatic hexagonal crystals almost entirely covering a flat plate of strongly foliated mid to dark-grey schist.  The Pyromorphite crystals have a rather waxy lustre, but with many reflective faces and contrast nicely against the sooty-grey clay-rich schist.
Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), with a historic Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label incorporating his coat of arms.  This label measures 6.4 x 5.0 cm and has been heavily trimmed, so losing much of the printed and hand-written text, but does still retain the complete coat of arms and the catalogue number 109/51.  A small label bearing this same number is glued beneath the specimen plus a Carl Rumpff label, dated 1889.  It is understood these labels were trimmed by curators at the Museum of Natural History of the Humboldt University in Berlin, to fit within their specimen boxes, after being bequeathed by Carl Rumpff’s widow in late 1889.
