Azurite from Tsumeb in Namibia occurred down through the mine as far as the 2nd Oxidation Zone and over the years several significant discoveries were made. This superb specimen cannot be pinpointed to one of these famous finds but is nonetheless a wonderful small cabinet example of this species from Tsumeb. The composite crystal measures 8.8 cm long and is double terminated, although terminating in a series of smaller crystals all in parallel growth. The underside of the flattened prism remains attached to a little granular mid-chocolate brown matrix. The majority of the crystal is that of pure unaltered Azurite forming a deep navy blue prism with a high, bright glossy lustre and is vertically striated along the faces. Small lichen-like developments of deep emerald green Malachite sit along the Azurite display face and contrast nicely against the mirror-like deep blue surface. This is an exceptional and outstanding Tsumeb Azurite.
