These well-known specimens of Dioptase-included within translucent colourless to creamy rhombohedral Calcite crystals have become a classic from the Tsumeb mine in the Oshikoto Region of Namibia and are now increasingly difficult to find.  Dioptase was surprisingly common at Tsumeb, especially in the deeper 2nd and 3rd Oxidation Zones, although is thought to have been hardly present in the shallower mine workings for little is seen in early collections from this period.  This small cabinet specimen is typical of this mode of habit in that the tiny Dioptase crystals are entirely included within the Calcite crystals, but always surrounded by an outer band of pure Calcite forming a rhombic shaped frame in which the Dioptase is displayed.  In some Calcites the Dioptase is not entirely included, so Dioptase crystals are openly displayed without a Calcite coating.  Perhaps it is because the Dioptase crystals are smaller in this association that their colour is a more bluish-green that normally encountered.  A beautiful and delightful Calcite with Dioptase inclusions from Tsumeb.
