Tourmaline var. Rubellite

ID: CC18938
An elegant, parallel sided Tourmaline crystal from Sapo mine close to the town of Conselheiro Pena in Minas Gerais, Brazil.  This 8 cm tall ex. matrix crystal is of mottled cranberry, damson, aubergine and magenta and when back-lit is a complex patchwork of these colours plus a spectrum of intervening shades.  The Tourmaline prism has striated faces and a sharply pointed trigonal pyramidal termination.  The crystal has been naturally etched all over resulting in stepped rectangular growth patterns across its surface.  The top 2 cm, which includes the termination, is a wonderful pinkish magenta in transmitted light making this a stunningly coloured Tourmaline to display.
