Phoenix mine is closely associated with Cliff mine at Phoenix in Keweenaw County, Michigan, USA. This horseshoe-shaped specimen of Native Copper has a thick central section, gradually narrowing along the two open arms.  The specimen is composed of numerous Native Copper crystals, many to over 1 cm long, which has been acid etched out of its matrix.  In many areas the natural patina remains whereas some patches and individual crystals have a fresh bright metallic copper colour.  It must be noted, at the narrow section below the branch which bifurcates, there is a weak natural pinch point which must not be stressed.  It is undamaged and intact but requires careful handling so as not to bend or snap the copper at this point.  Strengthening has been considered but ruled out as this would spoil the natural aesthetic.  The specimen displays well and is a beautiful example of crystallised Copper from the Phoenix mine in Keweenaw County.  The specimen comes with a Scalisi Collection, Raynham, Massachusetts label.
