Elbaite Tourmaline

ID: CC18941
A beautiful crystal of stunningly coloured Tourmaline from the Governador Valadares mining district in Minas Gerais, Brazil.  This single crystal, ex-matrix specimen, has deeply ribbed vertical prism faces, a flat pinacoid termination and grades from a bluish-grey translucent base to stunning interlayered bands of greenish indigo-blue and culminating in a 1 mm deep gemmy crimson-red termination.  The overall effect is stunning.  Interestingly, when viewed termination end-on, looking down the c-axis, the crimson tip completely disappears, displaying only vivid indigo.  A fabulous small miniature Elbaite Tourmaline mounted on a bevelled square clear acrylic base.
