A striking and unusual Calcite crystal from Stank mine near to Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, England. This elongated, ex-matrix crystal is triangular in cross section and has a fine, slightly raised, nail-head pyramidal termination with striated faces.  The crystal is translucent milky-white with occasional variation in colour due to its variable levels of transparency.  There is a little very minor nicking around some edges of the termination but only visible when magnified. One of the three prism faces is perfectly flat, as if the crystal has grown adjacent to an external flat surface.  The near-surface of one face is heavily included with sub-millimetre radial dendric fans of burnt orange to black Pyrolusite.  A terrific Calcite from Stank iron mine which operated for 30 years between 1871 and 1901.  This specimen is accompanied with a Willian Kelly Collection label of Stoneham, MA, USA.
