A remarkable specimen of Arsenopyrite from the St. Ives Consolidated mines by St. Ives in western Cornwall, England. The Arsenopyrite occurs as 1 x 1 cm acicular triangular bundles of silver-black metallic needles, lozenge shaped in cross section, each bundle measuring around 1.5 cm tall. The bundles emerge from a blueish-black metallic matrix and the whole specimen is a patchwork of iridescent steely-blue and silver. This is a highly unusual Cornish specimen of Arsenopyrite and from the seldom seen area of the St. Ives mining district. This specimen comes with a nice old label in copperplate hand writing, on which is written “Mispickel”, the old name for Arsenopyrite.
