Amber is a fossil tree resin and sometimes contains fossilised flora and fauna which became caught and embedded while the resin remained a sticky viscous fluid. This attractive curved smooth plate of transparent golden-amber-orange contains various trapped static gas bubbles, plant debris and two small ant-like insects, probably some species of termite. The larger of these measures about 2 mm long and can be viewed in detail under magnification as there are no inclusions to obscure its view. Please note that a 1.5 mm diameter hole has been drilled through the centre of the Amber for stringing on a necklace or bracelet but does not detract from this lovely example found on the shoreline of the Baltic Sea.
