Clearly a specimen from the West Cumberland iron mining district yet displaying Calcite crystals most unusual for this area. Sitting on top of a brick-red and earthy-tan Hematite matrix is a rich coverage of large, semi-transparent Calcite crystals up to just over 3.5 cm in length. The Calcite forms broad, colourless modified rhombohedral crystals, some transparent and all with mirror-smooth and slightly curved faces and edges. It is highly unusual and I suspect most collectors, even those with comprehensive West Cumberland suites, probably don’t have a Calcite habit similar to this. It’s delightful and will make a superb addition to any collection. This small cabinet specimen comes with a German collector’s label.
