Calcite with Marcasite

ID: CC19310
A showy, cabinet Calcite specimen of highly distorted rhombohedral crystals forming “Dutchman’s” cap crystals from Parc mine at Llanrwst, in the Gwydyr Forest area, Conwy, Wales.  This habit of crystal is also termed nail-head, consisting of a flattened rhombohedral crystal to form a triangular, Mercedes-Benz logo-type termination.  These crystals average 1 to 1.5 cm across, but can attain 2.5 cm.  They are translucent milky-white with some rims and terminations tinged dark-grey and dull golden-silver by the presence of Marcasite inclusions.
