A magnificent group of bladed, opaque, snow-white Baryte crystals forms two ball-like rosettes of approximately 8 x 9 cm and 6 x 6 cm diameter, from New Glencrieff mine, Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire (now Dumfries and Galloway), Scotland. The Baryte overgrows a base of lead-grey Galena which forms a few cubic crystals at one side. Lustrous and translucent nail-head Calcite crystals of about 3 mm diameter are richly scattered over many of the Baryte blades. A superb Wanlockhead Baryte with a well-known and much respected British collector’s label.
