This fabulous miniature is a splendid example of a classic Azurite nodule with included Malachite from its type locality at Chessy-les-Mines in Villefranche, France.  This famous mining district is immediately north-west of Lyon and originally gave its name to the mineral Chessylite, only later becoming renamed Azurite.  This beautifully compact nodule may be displayed to good effect from either side; one side showing the rounded crystallised exterior and the other, its internal radially crystalline structure with blades of silky emerald-green Malachite and a vuggy core of micro-crystallised Azurite.  A real beauty of a true French classic!
