Marcasite with Calcite

ID: CC19330
Bright, brassy, intergrown cockscomb crystals of Marcasite to 1 cm across densely cover an area of roughly 7 x 5 cm over a milky-white Calcite matrix.  This specimen is from Parc mine at Llanrwst, in the Gwydyr Forest area near to Conwy in Wales.  The Marcasite crystals are superb, each being a curved fan of radially stacked platy crystals forming an intermeshed cog-wheel pattern.  A great specimen and quite amazing on close examination.
