The Cozzo Disi mine is one of the most famous Sulphur mines in this region of Sicily and although about 100 km west of Mount Etna, just goes to show how complex the subsurface volcanic system is in this part of offshore Italy. This is an excellent specimen of superbly crystallised Native Sulphur overgrowing an undulating carpet of light grey-cream micro-spiky Aragonite crystals. The Native Sulphur forms blocky, translucent, bright sulphur-yellow prisms up to 1.9 cm across and transparent to gemmy prisms up to 1.2 cm. An excellent example of Native Sulphur and one which will look splendid amongst a collection of native elements.
