A sliced- sawn section of an Iron Meteorite with overall dimensions of 6.0 x 4.6 x 0.3 cm.  This is part of the very rare Tazewell meteorite, ploughed-up in a field in 1853, 10 miles west of the town of Tazewell in Claiborne County, Tennessee, USA; the fall was not observed.  This has been classified as an Iron, IAB-sLH type and is only one of ten known in this category.  The entire mass when discovered weighted a total of 27.2 kg.  In this specimen, one face has been polished and etched to display the Widmanst├Ątten pattern; the reverse face remains unpolished with the saw marks obscuring any crystalline structure.  The Tazewell Widmanst├Ątten pattern is much more finely crystallised than that seen in the greatly more common Gibeon meteorite, the former with a recorded bandwidth of only 0.045 mm.  This aesthetic, relatively large and very rare meteorite specimen comes with two old and one modern label.
