Wow!  It is all too easy to become complacent with Pyrite, but when a specimen such as this appears, it is suddenly becomes elevated to amongst the greats!  From the Huanzala mine in the Hu├ínuco Department of Peru, this small, exquisite miniature is formed from a group of perfect octahedral Pyrite crystals of a fabulous golden silver with a brilliant metallic reflectance and lustre.  The crystals measure up to 1.4 cm on edge with each face forming a perfect equilateral triangle.  The edges are slightly flattened to the dodecahedron and the faces are pierced with concave equilateral pits all in epitaxial alignment to the geometry and orientation of each crystal face.  It is beautiful and will make a superb addition to the most discerning of miniature collections.
