The Herja mine in Romania is famous for its wonderful Boulangerite-included Calcites and this delightful floater is a gorgeous example. Highly flattened rhombic Calcite crystals have developed to form a near-spherical cluster of jet-black Calcite, with outwardly projecting three-pointed star-shaped faces (Mercedes-Benz style). The Calcite is black because of the intensity of hair-like acicular Boulangerite inclusions. Unless magnified, these remain invisible, but under low magnification (say, x5) a dense mat of micro-acicular Boulangerite needles is visible within the Calcite’s dark interior. It’s a delightful example with several tiny, orientated Quartz crystals perched on some faces.
